DIY Floating Tablecloth Ghost Halloween decoration hanging from the ceiling in a colorful party setup with balloons, pumpkins, and spooky decor – easy Halloween craft idea for kids and families.

How to Make Floating Tablecloth Ghosts

You’ll need:

  • White balloons
  • White plastic tablecloths
  • Black paper or felt (for eyes)
  • Clear fishing line
  • A large-eye needle (or a wooden skewer to poke a small hole)
  • Command ceiling hooks
  • Scissors & tape or glue dots

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  • Inflate a balloon to medium size. This will be the ghost’s “head.”
  • Tie Fishing Line around the balloon knot, leaving extra length for hanging later.
  • Thread the other end of the fishing line through a large-eye needle, then carefully poke through the center of a plastic tablecloth.
  • Drape the tablecloth over the balloon, letting it flow down to create a ghostly silhouette.
  • Cut out two black eyes using paper or felt and attach them to the front of the tablecloth with glue dots or tape. (Tip: I added two sets of eyes to opposite sides of the ghost so that a face would always be visible as it moves and spins)
  • Hang your ghost from the ceiling using a Command hook and adjust the excess fishing line so the ghost “floats” at just the right height.

Repeat to make a whole ghost family!

Storage Tip: When Halloween is over, just remove the balloon, fold the tablecloth, and store it flat in to reuse again next year!

These floating tablecloth ghosts are one of those projects that’s simple to make but adds such a fun and magical touch to your Halloween decorating. Whether you hang them indoors or out, they bring the perfect mix of spooky and sweet- and I love that you can pack them away and use them again next year.
